6 Ways to Build Your Work Ethic!

Having a strong work ethic is hard for many of us, but hopefully with my advice this may become easier for you! These are just my personal opinions and things that help me, they may or may not work for you!

1. Set Goals with a Plan.

You should set short term and long term goals. Make goals for each day or week, so you know what you want to accomplish at the end of the day/week. Creating goals for the day/week will keep you on task and productive. Setting long term goals are different, think about where you want to be in a certain time period. Once you figure those out make a plan/strategy to get there. What are you going to do during that day or week or year to reach your goals? Have a checklist to check off what you got accomplished in that time frame, it will make you feel like you did something even if you didn't get everything you wanted to done. To be able to create these goals and plans, you need to know what success means to you and who you are and what you're about. It will help you generate your plans and goals.

2. Time Management & Organization.

Time management is crucial to building your work ethic, in my opinion, because you need to make sure you get everything you need to get done that day done. Set a specific amount of time you will spend on each task and order them from the most important to least important. Overall if you manage your time wisely you will get more accomplished faster. Being organized helps some and has no effect on others. Personally for me keeping everything organized is more helpful getting things done. I like using a planner to write down everything I need to get done in a day and a week. It also allows me to plan ahead and know what is coming.

3. Remove Things That Tempt You.

Take everything, I mean everything that tempts you to slow or stop your progress, whether it is your phone, your friends, social media, etc. If you put those things to the side you will be completely focused on the task or job that needs to be done. You can set up small breaks in between tasks to check your phone or social media.

4. Don't Wait.

Stop telling yourself that you "don't feel like it" or you "can do it later" because you're putting these jobs off to the side as if they aren't important. Don't hesitate, you will likely be more happy with the work or the product. If you hesitate or procrastinate you may be rushed trying to get the job done, because you did not feel like doing it two days ago.

5. Have a Healthy Lifestyle.

Doing something as little as taking soda out of your diet and drinking only water will make a difference in the way you feel. You will have more energy throughout the day and will be able to stay focused and get work done. I would personally recommend meditating. It helps calm and relax your body when you are stressed. Getting enough sleep every night and including a little exercise into your life will give you more energy and you will feel like you got more accomplished.

6. Self Discipline is Not Something You Are Born With.

No one is born with self discipline, it is something everyone has to practice. It takes a lot of repetition and motivation to achieve self discipline, but it is very possible. Whether you just want to work out, eat healthy, practice a passion etc. You won't have someone telling you what to do every day. Your mindset plays a large role in self discipline as well, for example, if you tell yourself and believe that you cannot do something, you won't do it. If you change that thought in your mind and tell yourself that you can do it and believe in yourself you will do it and feel good about the process whether you failed or succeeded. Don't limit yourself, sometimes the things that we want to hear need to come from ourselves not from others.
